Subject: Memorial Day Parade Information for Monday, May 25, 2015

Note: Junior and above, please send Troop Trip Applications to Ruth Hard:  ruthgsttf@gmail.com
Daisy and Brownie Troop Trip to Amy O’Leary: olearyamy@gmail.com

Older girls grades 6-12 are welcome to march in the parade.  If they want to earn Community Service Hours, please contact Carol Maiolo, who will give them an assignment.  Most of the help needed begins at 10:30 am for lining up the troops in the order described.

Parade Order for Monday May 25, 2015:  RES, SES, St. Mary, VPES, BES, BMES. FES  (last year FES was first).

Front of line within troop/school is kindergarteners with older girls at the end. (This is a reverse from last year).

Line up in front of Jesse Lee at 10:45 am.

Please refer to the following helpful guidelines:
  • Let's make a great impression by coordinating what we wear.  Suggested wear is a white top and light colored (khaki, tan, stone or white) bottoms. Bottoms can be a skirt, skort, shorts, capris or pants. NO JEAN CUT-OFFS.
  • Time to get your parade banners ready.  Last year they were amazing!
  • Comfortable walking shoes are a must. For Daisies and Brownies this means sneakers or other closed-toe shoes (no sandals or Crocs). For Juniors and older, choose footwear wisely. No flip flops please.
  • Most importantly ~ girl members MUST be in the appropriate level uniform. If a girl in your troop does not have a uniform, please encourage her parents to see about borrowing a uniform.  The minimum is your Girl Scout Pin on a the appropriate tab color with the WAGGS pin above it.  Both to be placed on pin tab and worn on the left side.
  • We will be lining up by school. Each school's Daisy Girl Scouts will be in the lead followed by older girls, 5th grade last (this is a reverse from last year).  If a leader is leading two troops, the younger troop will march with the older troop.
·         The streets surrounding Jesse Lee, including King Lane, will be very congested with limited access. In order for your troop to meet up, we
recommend the following: choose a meeting location away from Jesse Lee and walk over as a troop. If you choose to do this, PLEASE leave
yourself enough time to ensure your arrival no later than 10:45 am. Little girls can be slow walkers.

·         If you choose to meet at Jesse Lee, please advise your parents that they should plan to walk their daughter all the way to meet up with you and then
walk back to whatever spot they will be watching the parade from.

  • Troop Trip Applications for your troop and permission forms for each marcher are required.  You may send via e-mail.
·         Amy O’Leary: olearyamy@gmail.com  (Daisy and Brownie Troops)
·         Ruth Hard: ruthgsttf@gmail.com (Junior Level and higher)

·         As with any Girl Scout trip, you should have each girl's health history form and a first aid kit with you. Please encourage your troop families to make
sure their daughters eat a substantial breakfast and  bring water to drink. There will be receptacles for disposing of water bottles.  If it is a sunny day,
please remind girls to wear sun screen and/or visors.

  • When the parade begins, there will be a loud cannon blast. Please remind girls that this is coming and not SCREAM when they hear the blast.
  • Finally, be sure to identify a meeting place for your troop families to find you in Ballard Park. The Girl Scout contingent should be arriving at the park (after marching) by 12 noon.
