Melissa Brian (Troop 50367) - Music Education
When Melissa Brian decided to "Go for Gold", she knew that her project needed to involve music. A musician since age 5, Melissa is an accomplished flutist and guitarist. Through a family friend, Melissa discovered that the Carver Center in Norwalk did not have a music component to their summer program for 5-6 year olds. To prepare for her project, Melissa talked to parents and educators and did research online and at the library to understand what types of activities would be appropriate for this age group. She developed six comprehensive lesson plans and taught the children about rhythms, beats and notes, and the performed all of the parts of the play in costumes she made. The disc she recorded will become part of the collection at the religious education office for future classes to view.
